Research interests

My main areas of interest are:

Philosophy of mind, perception and consciousness (esp. mental representation, non-conceptual content, connectionism, embodied mind and cognition)
Contemporary and historical reponses to scepticism
The metaphysics of space and time
Wittgenstein's philosophy of psychology
The philosophy of Thomas Reid

When I'm not studying philosophy or programming web sites I also enjoy listening to music, playing guitar or keyboards, singing, recording music in my home studio, photography, cinema, and going for long walks in the countryside.

Background

Prior to studying at the University of York I worked as a software engineer and technical architect, and have contributed to a wide range of IT projects, including IngentaConnect.com, the electronic journal delivery platform, and an in-house wiki site for Ingenta plc that now includes over 3,000 pages and is used across the company. A selection of essays written during my undergraduate degree can be found here. I have also presented, responded to and chaired papers at various British Undergraduate Philosophy Society conferences (2005–7) and a National Postgraduate Analytic Philosophy Association Conference (NPAPC 2005).
